Under Russell Sharp from SharpFX, I worked on a range of Special FX for this film in the workshop & on-set:
- Running Foam Latex
- Armatures for 2 Stunt Corpses
- Zombie prosthetic application & makeup
- Tooth-stain application
- On-set zombie wrangler
- Blood FX including making fake blood, operating blood splatter gun for bullet wounds & blood pumping for stab/slash wounds
Fish Girl - Full Head Creature Special FX Makeup + Animatronic Tentacles
Fish Girl was my final prosthetic application for my Advanced Prosthetic Make-up course I undertook with SharpFX in 2013.
It involved a latex bald cap, 15 foam latex pieces, a translucent silicone fin with a fibreglass skull cap and armature wire, and acrylic veneers for the teeth. The tentacles are actuated off two servos routed down to a backpack. The gills were also designed to flare out using bladders and an air pump, but I ran out of time to get these working to the level I wanted on the day! All these were controlled remotely via an RC controller. The backpack unit can be seen here.
I designed and sculpted this creature, made all the 2 & 3 part plaster molds, as well as a 3 piece fibreglass mold (with help, as it was my first time glassing), and ran the silicone and most of the foam latex. I also made the bald cap, and did the full make-up application solo, including routing the animatronics, in around 6 hours.
There's a video of the tentacle movement below:
